of skilled workforce. This is worrying in a country with a large population. There are over 300
million people in India, who are either underemployed or unemployed. The fact that a significant
part of the population is unemployable is a matter of concern.
Vocational courses are courses designed to equip a person with the precise skills required for a
specific trade. The course aims to impart practical skills rather than theoretical knowledge. It
focuses on empowering and preparing the youth to become ready to work in a specific
profession. Vocational courses equip students to work domains like machine shops, mechanical
shops, factories, fine arts, or teaching.
